The only immediate and completely humane way to teach your dog to stop jumping. All dogs jump on people. It is their way of showing affection and getting attention. Dogs view jumping as an appropriate greeting.

We developed a training aid that immediately takes the guesswork out of your attempt to correct and re-direct their behavior. By simply blocking their landing spot, your dog will not jump up. This allows you the opportunity to use your verbal command of "Off", or "Down", simultaneously rewarding him for not jumping, thereby giving him the attention he desires while not allowing him to jump.

Product Details

The "Down Rover" Training Aid is a simple yet effective tool designed to stop dogs from jumping on people. It works by creating a barrier that blocks the dog's landing spot when they attempt to jump. This immediate physical feedback helps the dog understand that jumping is not an acceptable greeting behavior.

Unlike other methods that rely on punishment or can be inconsistently applied, the "Down Rover" provides immediate, consistent feedback every time. This allows you to simultaneously use verbal commands like "Off" or "Down" and reward the dog for not jumping, reinforcing the desired behavior.

The training aid is lightweight, easy to hold, and designed with both effectiveness and safety in mind.

Why "Down Rover" Is Different

Dogs have a huge range of personalities, and "history", both by breed and past experience. Some are bold and confident, and fairly unflappable, and others are timid and shy, and easily spooked. Not every dog will respond the same way to every technique. If a dog can be taught with the "ignoring" method, I am all for it! But, for a trainer to say that is the end all to teaching a jumper not to jump is doing a grave disservice to dogs and their owners, when that method DOES NOT work for them.

When I say does not work, I mean that there are dogs that jump very aggressively, knock people down, scratch them, and simply can not stop the behavior even for a split second, so that you can "reward them" for not jumping. "Down Rover" protects you from the assault, allows you to block the attack, and interrupt the behavior, so that the dog's attention can be redirected to you. This ALLOWS you to reward them far more quickly for the appropriate behavior.

Problems With Alternative Methods

The traditional methods for stopping dogs from jumping often have significant drawbacks:

  1. Ignoring the dog - Not an option for out-of-control jumpers or when meeting strangers on walks.
  2. Squeezing their paws - Dogs may lose trust, become afraid of paw handling, or even bite.
  3. Stepping on their leash - Confuses dogs who associate leashes with walks, not training.
  4. Spray bottles - Should only be used very sparingly if at all.
  5. Loud sounds - Can startle sensitive dogs and create fear.
  6. No-jump harnesses - Difficult to put on jumping dogs and only work when physically restrained.
  7. Tying them up - Ineffective for actual training.
  8. Isolation during guests - Avoids the problem rather than solving it.
  9. "Catch poles" - Inappropriate tools being marketed as training devices.
  10. Prong collars - Can cause physical and psychological harm.

Many of these methods cause dogs to develop "learned helplessness" rather than actually teaching them appropriate greeting behaviors. The "Down Rover" training aid provides a humane alternative that actually teaches dogs what behavior is expected.
